Doggone Good Antiques & More originally opened in 2000, and was located in the country. It was named for the fact that at that time, a stray dog had been left at our place and delivered puppies . . . which with our own dogs, made for a herd of 12! We figured if you actually found the doggone place, and made it past the doggone dogs, you would understand the name. We started with very few antiques, and created the shop in the walk-in basement of our home. It served as the office, and a place to browse, for our Bed & Breakfast Guests, and was certainly a unique and fun place. Our business grew, but due to the location, remained very seasonal. In good weather the customers came, but when the roads got muddy or snow packed, it really slowed down. That's when we worked on the fixer-upper furniture acquired at auctions and antique shows. It soon became evident that we had enough items to fill a much larger space, and we needed a more accessible location! We purchased the former Chambers Legion building, in August 2007. It took a lot of work, inside and out, but provided a wonderful 40 x 80' space to work with! It was shocking when we painted the outside, "Plum Dandy" . . . but we can now tell people to just look for the big purple building! Inside, we stripped everything, and completely renovated . . . opening day in town was April 1, 2008.
